MP5A4 Selector Switch Empty
PostSubject: MP5A4 Selector Switch   MP5A4 Selector Switch EmptyThu Feb 21, 2008 8:35 pm

Hi guys, well iam having alittle problem with my MP5s selector switch. And i think its unsafe for some times. The selector switch is kinda messed up.

When i put the gun on safety of course the switch stays there. But when i pull the trigger, the safety goes to single fire mode. Im afraid it might hurt someone really bad if it does. So is there anything inside the gun i have to fix to solve this problem???

There is one way, which will take me a while to explain, but this can damage your guns internals badly if you dont do it properly. you have to open the mechbox, and move some parts around. then put them back, so I highly do not reccomend it

Then why post what you just posted? To get your post count up?

Anyway. There should be a little alan screw on one of the selectors. Tighten it and see if it works.

Reynolds sorry for disappointing you about the post, it was more like a warning of what can happen

Back In topic, I know that some local airsoft relaitors do not fix guns they do not sell, but ic you have one see if they can help and give you advice, including supervision, but you repair the gun yourself

PostSubject: Re: MP5A4 Selector Switch   MP5A4 Selector Switch EmptySat Feb 23, 2008 10:20 pm

Sounds like the slippy selector switch can be due to a certain ball bearing being loose or grinded down. Happened with my glock 18c's selector switch, which is notorious for strange behavior. Basically, if they work the same way, the selector switch should click into each position by a spring loaded ball bearing fitting into a certain groove.

The fix would to be to find out if the MP5 works the same way, and then replace the ball.

MP5A4 Selector Switch Empty
PostSubject: Re: MP5A4 Selector Switch   MP5A4 Selector Switch EmptyMon Feb 25, 2008 1:10 am

FWIW, I have had this issue on ALL of the HK style fire selector switches.

Having taken apart the UTG model, I did in fact find a ball bearing that basically is pushed against the frame of the gun by a small spring.

Now, at first I tried to find a small spring to replace the one in the actual switch. This proved fruitless, so I basically wedged a small piece of paper as a spacer between the spring and the ball bearing.

THat helped somewhat, but as you can tell, I didn't put a whole lot of effort into the job. (It was a UTG after all).

I just wanted a proof of concept.

I had seen something like this elsewhere and it gave me the idea.

Here is a quick search thread I did on AS-R which should help you out.

This particular thread seemed pretty on point, FYI:

If you can take pictures of the issue and post them, that would be VERY helpful.

Even if you can't there are some in the links I provided.

There MAY be a small screw located on the switch itself. Once removed, it should allow the switch to pop right off and you can see the track/groove the ball bearing has made in the frame of the gun.

Then you'll have a better idea of what the problem is and what needs to be done. Again, if you can, post a pic of the parts once they are disassembled.

Also, IF YOU DISASSEMBLE ANY PART OF YOUR AIRSOFT GUN!!!!!!!

Do so in a large open area preferably on something large, soft and white. I.e. a sheet. This way, if a spring or a bearing or screw etc... go flying, you will be able to find it MUCH easier than if it rolls under a bed or into carpet etc... (Ounce of prevention = pound of cure)

Best of luck!

LOL, i just had trouble with my Galaxy mp5-pdw's switch.

Does anyone know if this problem only shows in the Navy style trigger group, or does it show up in the SEF trigger group also?

PostSubject: Re: MP5A4 Selector Switch   MP5A4 Selector Switch EmptyMon Feb 25, 2008 1:44 am

As far as my experiences go, the issue is simply a bad design integral to the HK style switch assembly in the G36C, MP5 (And its variants) as well as any other model which uses this type of switch.

This is not saying that ALL of this type is faulty, only that I believe that as far as airsoft products go, this is not the best design for a selector switch.

I find the M4 style to be much more reliable. Even the integral units found in the AUG and the P90, seem to be more reliable.
