Mask or no mask? Empty
PostSubject: Mask or no mask?   Mask or no mask? EmptyMon Jun 09, 2008 2:45 am

A few games back I was yelling something to a team mate when a sniper hit me in the mouth, it grazed my lip and hit my tooth (We do ask that you refrain from head shots but things happen). It did not hurt much but it freaked me out, I have heard story's of people who's teeth chipped from shots like that. So now I am thinking, is it worth it to ware a mask and protect my teeth? Or should I continue with the goggles and consider that shot a really lucky one.

If a full mask would be better, is there a good, preferably low priced one I should look into?

If the verdict is that it was a luck shot, I would like a better par of goggles, any suggestions?

I did just spend most my money on a KWA M4 so I will probably just put this stuff on my B-day list since my Birthday is next month.

Chase get the JT Flex masks from AEX. Not the full, I find it annoying to cover the top of your head. I am not sure for you, but you may need an ACOG so you can aim easier with the mask on.

When you wear only goggles you are risking getting a tooth chipped.
I would say play it safe and use a full face mask.

Personally, I don't use a full face mask, because I am stupid.

If you need better goggles go here.
Depending on which state you live in ( I don't know California's rules) you may be required to wear a mask at an event. I know in North Carolina everyone under 16 has to have full face protection. If you don't want to get hit in the face you may also want to consider a balaclava. I wear one with those goggles I reccomended. It allows for easy manuvering and aiming. If you want new goggles definately get the ones I showed in the link. They will get to your door in three days from the day you ordered them.

I used to wear Goggles, and I actually like playing in them a lot more. I have started wearing a mask, but it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to aim with it. I cut off part of it on the right side, and its now much easier to aim. It was a lucky shot, however you would probably be better off using a mask.

Goggles + Shemagh or Balaclava.
Full aiming ability, not too hot, looks much better, and still offers full protection.

Oddly enough, an aquaintance of mine was using a JT mask at Airsoft Playground and got shot in the face. The bb actually made it through the vent and chipped his tooth badly. I know it's a one in a million shot, but it's still a possibility that a BB can make it inside a full mask.

Lol I am not that paranoid stealth. I have seen the Flakjak goggles and I think they would be the best choice. Should I just go to a walk in store for the Balaclava? Or on line?

^With mouthguards, you lose most of your ability to communicate effectively though.

I mean, everyone can make up their own mind about their facial protection, but for me, I hate full masks, lol. The only one I would consider is the EyeTactical masks, but those are damn pricy.

With a little elbow grease and some camo fabric, you can custom make a mask cover or you can make a lower piece for goggles that looks good and protects well so it will look a little better.

"What?"

"What!?"

"I'm hit"

"Oh!"

Yeah mouthguards are probably the last thing you want to use. I would just get what booligan says

Obviously none of you really play sports. You get used to a good mouthguard FAST. Give it a couple games and itll feel almost natural.

Another option if using a mask is to get a raised mount and put an optic on top so you can aim better. I put a carrying handle mount and a red dot on my M4 and it works great.

you don't need mouthguards in tennis and basketball......... lol

Just make sure the balacava or however you spell it isn't too thick or too thin. (thin rips easy, thick holds in a lot of heat)

yay for off topic!

I personally use a paintball mask for outdoors, I like the extra security(/my teeth)

I know there could be a one in a million shot, but its how it feels, you know?

Thanks prodigy, I will probably just do as you (and booligan) suggested. Any certain balaclava brands I should look out for?

There are the FLEX masks without the top part, exposing the top part of your head (where your hair is... if you have any). those tend to be more confortable. Get a SCOPE to aim if you have a mask, then it is easy to aim.

Its only off topic if the majority the post is...which is none of mine.

Anyway, goggles and a balaclava will be fine, but I dont know any particuarly good brands.
