PostSubject: .30gram BBs are better then .20 or point .25s??   Sun Aug 24, 2008 2:22 am

I just found .30 gram BBs on airsoftgi.com and was wondering if they were better than .25 or .20 gram BBs? I'm looking for max power and accuracy so theoreticly a heavier BB would be better right?

.3s will be way too heavy for the stock power. I suggest TSD .25s. (they are great bbs and you get 2000 more over KSC or AE)

You will get great accuracy with .3s, but your range will be terrible. If you want great accuracy and power, install a tightbore barrel and a new bucking. very easy to do. http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/G36-Takedown-Guide-massi-t43274.html

I have a madbull silicone bucking and a "fishbone" style spacer and I used to have to crank up the hop up almost all the way to get a good hop with .25s. Now, I barely have it above zero and it has a perfect hop. (it also has much greater range flying straight. I used to have to add a ton of hop to get range so the bbs would soar up)

Just a bucking will give you an increase in performance and accuracy.

oh and i was jsut wondering if .20 or .25 are fine then i'll just get those but if the .30s were better i would have got a bag of them but i'm not sure i need to be able to hit a dime from 50ft away lol (mabye a small exageration) i just want bb's that won't mess up my gun and that will fly strait enough to hit a guy at 50-80 ft and mabye a little up, in sedona we really jsut have fields with some bushes and rocks no long range acrage like the pro games.

I'd recommend .25s. Guns shooting over 330 and above should use .25s. TSDs are great and I suggest you buy 2 bags, that way you don't have to keep paying the 10 dollar shipping. (if that makes sense)
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_44_193&products_id=2445

If you want biodegradable and a slightly heavier bb, these look interesting.
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_44_193&products_id=3977

hop up bucking
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_170&products_id=1956

I can't tell you why the reviews are bad, mine is working great. Beware, the rubber bucking WOULD NOT fit, so you might want to look at a systema bucking.

Here's a great guide on how to get to your barrel and such.
Oh sorry, I'll edit my post later, the website is down.....

I give you the link ASAP.

You won't need to upgrade the barrel if you aren't doing long range, just get a new bucking Smile Hope this helps

If you have a nice, responsive hop-up that is adjustable then your range will not be "terrible" compared to .25's. You will just have to adjust it to the new weight to compensate. Compared to .2's, yeah you'll loose some feet, but it wont be too drastic if, like I said, you have a good hop-up system. Most mid-range guns though come stock with iffy units which often are not too consistent or sensitive to small changes. But anyway, I agree that .25's will be your best bet because you wont sacrifice so much speed (which is what drastically changes through upping the weight). I use .3's in my sniper only as obviously accuracy matters more over sheer power because of the rate of fire. In this regard, which bb is "better" becomes strictly relative. Remember too that heavier bb's don't react to wind as much. But if only 50-80 feet is your normal engagement then yeah .25's or even .23's will be your best bet.

Ya i bought some .20 crossmans today ant they are SOOOOOO much better than my .12s ( i gave those away ha)increased accuracy by like 10xs and i love them i think im going to get a bulk load (12,000) of .25 TSD of G&G so that should work well.

question: do you need a new barrel to put o new bucking on? or will it work with my stock barrel? and also what exactly does it do?

You don't need a new barrel to install a new bucking. The bucking is the rubber inside the hop up that give back spin on the BB causing it to fly in a wave pattern instead of straight so it goes farther.

The bucking goes around the back of the barrel in the hop up.

This is a guide that worked for my E1 G36C. (will work for you too since JG/E1s are TM compatible)

http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/G36-Takedown-Guide-massi-t43274.html

Barrels and hop ups are very easy to replace.

Yeah they could, but I wouldn't suggest you upgrade it. (unless you change the gears and such)

so you wouldn't recommend the basic upgrade for e1/jg from airsoft gi? hey my gun shot through a comforter yesterday, the whole way through, so power isn't a nessessary upgrade but i want the internals to last as long as they can.........

Well, there are performance upgrades and there are upgrades to make your gun last longer. Usually, performance upgrades will not make you gun last longer, and sometimes they can make your gun break sooner.

... First off, what gun do you have in the first place?

Second,

.3s WILL go almost as far as .25s, you cant really say the it is heavier so it wont go as far.

You do play baseball right?

well why do the soft, lighter baseballs not go as far as the regular hardball?

A lot of that question has to do with the "pop" of the bat.

But if you had a ball machine, that shot out regulation baseballs, not the yellow or white, balls. They would travel almost the SAME distance, maybe the ligther one willl go farther.

There will be a distance may slightly not the same but you know what I mean.

Also the lighter the bb means faster MUZZLE velocity.

Meaning that the BB will increase speed as it moves through the air.

The lighter bb will MOVE faster, and increase speed faster, but 280FPS using the .3s may mean from 100 ft away 310fps, once it hits.

You are wrong FDSAKiller. I have the E1 G36C and with the stock bucking, .3s won't go as far. It's a fact. You might have greater EFFECTIVE range, but your overall range will be reduced. BBs don't gain speed as they travel, they lose speed...... they might pick up speed for a second, but that's it. With the stock bucking, I had to crank up the hop up almost all the way in order for .25s to get a good hop. Sure the .3s will stay on target better and will be less affected by wind, but the .2s will go farther. Let's take my spring pistol for example. When I use .2s, it shoots about 100 feet. When I use .25s, it barrely goes 80 feet. (sure the hop up can't be adjusted, but you get the point)

I don't get the last part of your post.......
"but 280FPS using the .3s may mean from 100 ft away 310fps, once it hits."

A gun shooting 350 fps is not meant for .3s...... Most people use .28s when their gun shoots about 450+ and use .25s below that. Sure you can use them, but there is no point to.

Also, if you are referring to the spongy baseballs, they are made of two different materials. BBs are all made from the same thing.

FDSA, I get what you are trying to say, but the baseball analogy doesnt
really convert to airsoft. And stealth, you arent exactly right either.
After a certain distance .3s will be going faster than .2s at the same
distance, as it takes more resistance to slow heavier objects. So with
any kind of reasonable hop up you wouldnt really see too much of a drop
in range over .25s. But I dont think you can classify them as "better", and I would stick to .23s or .25s.

ok so i should get the uprgrade if i can or will my gun last a long time stock if i don't treat it like a peice of sh^t?

socond. bb's picking up speed makes no sense and it's against the laws of physics!!! an object moving at a set rate cannot be constant or increasing after a certaint point! yes the bbs pick up speed but only after the first 40-50 feet after that they lose velocity rapidly! so i have no interest in shooting .3s out of my G36 however .20 and .25 seem to be the way to go i am quite pleased with the increase in accuracy from the .20s will .25s be a huge difference or not very noticable at all?

If you're just buying an ECHO 1 G36 right now, leave it just as it is. I wouldn't recommend opening any gun without a good reason. Especially not if it's not being done by someone you trust with your gun. Treat any gun with care and it should last a very long time. But dropping new parts in a gun when (it sounds like) it's practically brand new, I just wouldn't understand why. Of course, a good cleaning, lube and reshimming is always good, especially just keeping the barrel clean. That will help your gun last a very long time.

As for BB's, I've used .20 for the longest time, but I'm starting to switch to .25g bb's. The drop in distance is literally somewhere between 10-20 feet in my CA M15A4 but the increase in accuracy is indeed very noticeable. I even use .25g bb's in my pistol! I don't see any reason to go to .3g in a gun that isin't a sniper rifle. .20g and .25 will do just fine.

And with the physics, shooting a heavier bb weight will go less distance, but be more accurate. And a lighter bb will go farther but be less accurate. As I have seen, the difference between .20 and .25g bb's distance wise is not a good enough reason to sacrifice the signifigant jump in accuracy that occurs from switching.
-Bert.

thanks that what i thought i'm going to stick to .20s for now and mabye try a bag of .25s and if i like them better ill stick with them, i don't usually need to hit anything farther than 100 feet so i should be just fine

thank you

yes that makes sense a point .3 would be a little heavier than a .25 and would lose a lot of range in flight unless you had a gun that would fire at 400-450 fps and above. such as some of the higher end snipers, which i don't have so a .3 would be too heavy for my gun and could possible burn out the motor correct?

No when people say "too heavy" that means if anything, you will get a performance DECREASE. BBs can never be too heavy for a gun. The only thing it will do is shoot like crap. (it won't hurt your gearbox) The reason why people say don't use .12s is because pretty much every bag or bottle of .12s are terrible in quality and will jam your gun. (which can cause the internals to break)

Effective is the word I left out, whats is the point of having a BB that WONT hit the target.

Stealth and Airsoftman, I agree.

I was 95% wrong

and maybe 5% right Smile

Im so smart arent I
