Advantages? Disadvantages? Purpose?

I'm not really clear on why they're used... Anyone care to enlighten me?

They seem to be used in nice sniper rifles and in very expensive WWII replica weapons, but I don't know too much about them.

Wow. I figured they'd be more powerful... But 7.29 joules... That's pretty ridiculous...

I can see where they really lend themselves to CQB though... With the average gun (that is, if a 6mm gun could shoot an 8mm bb, preverbially) they'd probably drop pretty quickly after... 60-75 feet...

Sounds like they're a blast to play with though.

How about this?

http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_113&products_id=1272

For some reason I don't think a 6mm would've done it justice.

I don't think 8mm, never mind 6mm, does it justice.

True. But 10mm might be overkill... I mean, that's bigger than some REAL projectile rounds.

I've never seen one in action though, so i cant actually say how well it performs, and if the 8mm does it justice.

^^Um... They don't make 8mm AEGs, so you're kind of out of luck there.

Today I was at my walk in store. They had an M14 with real wood, THAT FIRED 8mm BBs!!!!!!!!! It is the only AEG I Have ever seen that fired them. (Right now, I am kicking myself for not remembering the brand)
