I was unaware that TM made an L85... and its an Ak74 MN, not ak47 MIN


Anyway, if you can afford to buy him a PSG1, im sure there are much better guns you can get him instead of those...

TM doesn't make an L85....perhaps you mean the G&G?

The G&G L85 has some problems... One which is most noticeable is the 18 tooth non-standard piston. Ive read from reviews people have had problems with it. Though if you wait ICS will be releasing their L85 pretty soon. It ought to be the best L85 yet.

Well they are all meant to be upgraded considering none of them shoot higher than 300 fps other than that I would ask him which style he likes best, the mauri's are going to be more reliable though.

Yeah, but It is going to be a surprise, what do you think I am going to do say "ok your Christmas present is going to be a AUG a AK 47 or a L85, your choice, and when you get it say act like you are surprised and didnt expect it!!"
but I think he would like the AUG, since the AK MN is not perfected, (and the blowback doesnt go back all the way) but the poll will keep going, because I want to see other people's recomendations, but if it wasnt a present just like a gift for like a birthday, I would ask him

Well the G&G L85 has reliability issues not because of the amount of teeth on the piston, it is the EBB system.

With the EBB system in the G&G, there is a hook-type piece of metal that is connected to the dustcover. What happens is when the piston compresses back into the spring guide, the hook grabs onto one of the teeth, when the piston slams forward it lets go of the hook. creating the blow back action. The issue is that these hooks wear down often and break in half, so often that G&G gives you replacement hooks. The major issue is, for the hook to grab onto the piston, the gearbox must be open, basically, the gearbox has no top cover, and is open at the top. This means that when the hook breaks, parts of it falls into the gearbox, and gets into all kinds of trouble with your gears and such. This is why I am weary when I see these AEGs with EBB.

There is a simple solution though, just take the hook out of the gun, so the EBB is not functional, and you have fixed the problem.

So will the ICS be the best L85 yet? We'll have to see, though I would be surprised if it wasn't, since it's release date is years after the G&G's.
