| As a sniper with extremely high FPS no one likes to play CQB with me unless I'm using my pistol. So my question is this. Does anyone have any incite on what a silencer does to the accuracy/performance on an Echo 1 MP5J? I realize that all silencers will be different, but in general if anyone can shed some light I'd appreciate it.

| Nothing at all. It will provide something for a longer inner barrel to hide in for "more" accuracy. But nothing else. | |

| I agree. The majority of silencers on the market are basically hollow tubes and offer nothing more than weight and/or aesthetics. I have a Madbull Gemtec Blackside on my Echo 1 MP5 and it looks sick but it does nothing more than add weight and the look. The only silencer I have actually used that did change the performance of my gun substantially was the one included with the Y&P Mk23. This particular silencer had an extension of the gun's inner barrel filling the hole in the silencer so it added more fps and accuracy to the gun when I screwed it on. Most silencers sold seperately dont have this though, and you will usually only see it on pistols unless you do the work yourself in making one. If you want to chage the performance of the gun you'd have to do something to the internals of your MP5 before game time.

| Yeah, most silencers don't do much, but the one that came w/ my JG BAR-10 G-Spec actually silencers it a bit. | |

| Keep in mind the "Most" in this sentence. I don't think there's much you can buy that will dramatically act as a silencer, though one I've been able to create out of an old plastic tube has some minor silencing capabilities, which is actually useful as it's effect makes the sound of the gun firing harder to locate. | |

I don't do the cheap thing with sniper rifles. I like my Marui PSG1 with level two's too much. Thanks for the input guys. | |

| Yeah, I have the JG BAR as well and I was quite surprised that the silencer does dampen the sound. | |

| really, thats odd, but some silencers can be semi permanently installed( have to take out a part) and is part of a tight bore barrell system, or certain tight bore barrells you buy, you can atach a silencer to | |

| To start, there are two types of silencers. The first is the hollow barrel extension. It is obviously used to hide an extended barrel for short barreled guns. Or like others said, used for aesthetics and adding weight. The second kind is the Foam Filled (FF) silencer. Mostly used on snipers or gas pistols, they do provide a dampening effect to the sounds a airsoft gun makes. I myself own a TM small type Pro silencer. I use it on my M4, and i would agree that it does in fact change the sound that the AEG makes when firing. For example without a silencer it produces a loud clack sound, with the silencer it make a duller thump sound when fired. Though for AEG's it will not eliminate most sound due to the fact that most of the sound is produced inside the gearbox. If you are interested in buying a FF silencer i would suggest www.trinityairsoft.com that is where i bought mine, also email them to make sure its foam filled before purchasing. If you just want a barrel extension, you can really just buy it from any other airsoft retail store. | |
