| Hey guys, I was just wondering what the best ways to maintain an AEG are. More specifically, what should be used to clean the gearbox and what should be used to clean the inner barrel? Thanks | |

| Use the stick, and put a soft piece of cloth in it (best choice is silk) and clean the barrell, you can also take it apart ad take it out, to help keep the gun going with a high rate, and stop jamming or cracking, every month, or long airsoft session, spray some silicon oil into it | |

| Yes, use the dejamming rod with a paper towel or some kind of cloth (I use gun cleaning patches) and clean the barrel after spraying silicone lube in the mag well. (So that is gets to the hop up and everthing. | |

Actually the best choice is cotton as silk is not abrasive enough to catch smaller particles of dust, dirt etc. Airsoft guy has the right idea with the gun cleaning pads, but if you cant find those just use some form of cotton.

| Well first off, dont use a cotton ball. It will come undone in the barrel and you dont want those little threads all up in your gun. Use a very very thin cloth, or even a robust paper towel will do fine. Did your gun come with a cleaning rod? Its that long plastic rod that should have a wedge shape on one end (for clearing jams) and what looks like the head of a giant sewing needle on the other. You want to thread the cloth through that hole halfway so either end is sticking out. Then just drag that through the barrel a few times and then you're good. I like to have two, one dry and one wet. The dry one I use in the above procedure and the wet one I keep especially clean to wipe access silicone from the barrel once I spray it in so that I dont get gunk buildup. PS if you dont have a cleaning rod, use a wire hanger, just be careful not to scratch the barrel in doing so.

| Thank you, that helps a LOT.
So how often do you recommend doing this procedure? Every ####rounds or so?
Also, while cleaning the barrel, you are supposed to turn off the hop up correct?

| It all depends on how you play and how often. More outside time means more cleaning and even storing the gun indoors on its butt means more dust in the barrel unless you have a muzzel cap. Just use your better judgement. I personally like to do it after every other major game I play. I always turn the hop-up off but I dont know if it really makes a difference. | |

| my bad yeah cotton, the silk is just a lot softer, and can pick up most dirty grom or build up inside the barrel, I am accualy really cheap, and just use bits of cloth I see that we are about to throw away | |
