| Hey guys, This is just some of my dad's gear he had when he fought in vietnam. Enjoy. Jacket Tag on jacket Shirt Private chevron(he never did sew on the rest, but i have them) Boots front Back Dog Tags (note one is covered in rubber cover to prevent them from jingling) Thats all for now guys, questions and comments appreciated. | |

| he was a medic,i have to look at the ranks to see bro, i forget, it was the highest one without being an officer. i completely forget, so could you tell me the rank. But i did always ask him why he didnt become and officer but as usual he would say " I dont want to talk about it" | |

| Medic, most likely SgtMaj then.
Medics are a great field, when someone is dieing, who do they call? It's not the morgue.
Today, the only way to be an officer is to go to ROTC in college. There may be another way, but I think not.
And from the sounds of it your dad joined the Army out of high school in order to achieve that rank without a formal education. If he had formal education he would be an officer.

| i dont know i dont see him anymore because he is abusive, but he had to go to military highschool, but he didnt join, he got drafted, im really not sure man. He never talked about it much. | |

| You are mistaken, 1st Sgt.(E8 ) is lower than Sgt. Major(E9)
