Bit of an overdramatization there...

I used a normal trickle charger and a christmas tree light timer for the first 5 years of my airsoft career, never once killed a battery.

A smart charger is just easier and a bit of a safety net over a trickle charger/light timer combo.

EDIT: And why is this in the Mid end AEG section? Shouldn't it be in the Battery/Charger section?

I have been playing for 2 years and still use a trickle charger, although i am thinking of investing in one it is not necessary.
